Film industry always target the Valentine’s Day season for the release of their romantic flicks. This is considered to be the best time of the year to release the romantic films because this is the season of love and romance is in its peak among the youngsters.
Kollywood is also following the same formula since last few years. In 2009, director Rajesh released the Jeeva and Anuya starrer romantic comedy Siva Manasula Sakthi on Valentine’s Day. The soft romantic flick with Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music went on becoming a sleeper hit. In 2010, Gautham Menon directed romantic film Vinnaithandi Varuvaayaa’s music became top ten hits of the year. Oscar winner A.R. Rahman composed the music of the film.
Now, Kollywood targets to release the romantic musicals during February. In 2011, two romantic musicals are lined for February release, one is KV Anand’s Ko and the other is Prabhu Deva’s Engeyum Kaadhal. The music of these two films has been given by Harris Jayaraj and has already been popular among the listeners.
Prabhu Deva’s assistant AC Mugil is also planning to release his debut film Kandaen in this month. Vijay Ebenezer has composed music of this film and it has already become a chartbuster.
Actress Hansika, who is debuting in Tamil films with Prabhu Deva’s Engeyum Kaadhal, says that she hope the movie releases during the Valentine’s weekend. The actress says that it is a romantic film with Jayam Ravi playing her love interest. She adds that the film has been wonderfully made by the director.
The producers and distributors are also desperate to release their movies in the month of February. A leading distributor was quoted saying that they want most of the Tamil films to release in February because World Cup will start after this and then IPL will follow. He thinks the viewers will prefer romantic movies at this point of time.
Well, Kollywood seems to be ready to please its viewers with romantic treat this February!
